Not to look a gift horse in the mouth, but…

Three-day weekends are a wonderful thing. But I’ve come to realize that three-day weekends where you have Monday off are vastly inferior to three-day weekends where you have Friday off.

Now, in theory, they’re the same. You get three days off instead of two.

But, in truth, the benefits of a Friday-off three day weekend are far greater. For starters, you get a whole week of “I don’t have to work Friday.” You get four full days at work knowing that this week will end sooner than it’s regularly scheduled time. Even better, you get an extra Friday night, really. Because that Thursday night? You can totally treat it like a Friday night. People are out at bars. There’s shit to do.

A Monday-off three day weekend just isn’t as good. Instead, you get a weekend knowing you have just a four day week in front of you. Which is nice, but just sorta okay. And then there’s that Sunday night. Theoretically, it should be like having an extra Saturday night. You don’t have to work tomorrow. But it isn’t really an extra Saturday night. There’s not that much going on. Nobody really wants to do all that much and ultimately it just feels like two days and nights of Sunday. Which is the least fun day of the weekend.

Sure, I don’t have to go to work tomorrow. And I’m sorry for the people that do. But let’s face facts. Instead of feeling a rush of “wheee”, it’s more of a “what am I going to do tomorrow?” Who knows. Probably not all that much. And having a four day week will be nice. But nothing to get all excited about.

So yeah. I’d rather have every three day weekend be a Friday-off three day weekend.
